Electromyography (EMG) is a specialized diagnostic procedure that evaluates the health of your muscles and the nerves controlling them.
During the test, a small needle electrode is inserted into specific muscles. As you contract and relax the muscle, the EMG records electrical activity and sends the data to a monitor.
This test is commonly performed alongside Nerve Conduction Studies (NCV) and helps detect issues such as:
Nerve root compression (e.g., sciatica)
Neuropathies (e.g., diabetic neuropathy)
Muscle disorders (e.g., myopathies)
Motor neuron diseases (e.g., ALS)
